Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ “Janglin” and “Home” appear in 2011 commercials

After seeing Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros in the Railroad Revival Tour, there were two things that I noticed…  Two of their songs are now featured in commercials on regular television.

The first is “Janglin,” it is featured in the 2011 Ford Fiesta commercial.

Continue after the jump to see the second commercial.

The second is “Home,” which is featured in a new commercial by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Mexico.

Music heard before it’s seen

Both of these songs are very catchy and were both played on their tour with Old Crow Medicine Show and Mumford & Sons.  They must be cashing in on their new found fame.  The Ford Fiesta commercial has been out for some time now.  I knew of the commercial way before I knew about the band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

Bands make money from car commercials

They aren’t the only band to have their music featured in commercials or even car commercials.  One that comes to mind is The Heavy being featured in a car commercial with the creepy Sock Monkey driving the vehicle.  It must not have been that memorable, if I can’t remember the car, but the concept and music are.

Other bands music in commercials

Another band that has been featured in a commercial is the Subways.  There music was featured in a couple of Rimmel London makeup commercials.  After seeing these commercias, I realized that smaller bands are usually used for commercials.  I’m guessing this is because their music must be cheaper than number-one selling artists like Lady Gaga.

A good question is how much money do the musicians get from having their music in commercials that are seen by thousands of people?

Here is one of the commercials with The Subways’ song “Rock and Roll Queen.”

There is another with the song “She sun” but I’m having a difficult time finding that particular video.
