Arcade Fire play in Santa Fe

Arcade Fire performed at Santa Fe Community Convention Center Monday, April 18.  The tickets were sold out at least a week before the date of the event.  Ticket prices averaged around $50 and $1 from the price of the ticket went to help the victims in Haiti.

Eleven microphones and eight band members

The first thing I noticed while they were setting up the stage for Arcade Fire, were the numerous microphones.  There were also an array of instruments that needed to be tuned including the unusual hurdy gurdy.  Which is like a guitar that has a crank which rotates and strums the strings continuously.

The show must go on

The band opened with two of their most popular songs, “Ready to start” and “Month of May.”  I was surprised that they started with these songs.  I’m used to bands saving the best songs for the encore.  They also played, “Rococo,” “No cars go,” “Wake up,” and “We used to wait.”  The band members rotated through the instruments and signing roles the entire show.  It was fun watching them switch roles.  I had no idea that they played so many instruments.  It must be difficult remembering how to play every instrument and also remember which parts to play.

There were some troubles when it came to the regular ballroom’s chandelier lighting.  They kept coming on the entire show, which was a complete mood killer for the band.  Butler got so upset with it that he jumped off stage.  I’m assuming he went to talk to people about it, but others thought he had to take a quick bathroom break.  Which is true, we’ll never know.

Concert of the year

This was by far one of the best concerts that I’ve seen this year.  Their stage performance was amazing.  Win Butler’s wife, Régine Chassagne, did such a great job tying the music together with her dancing and hand gestures.  Her performance added an extra oomph that made the show more interesting.  I look forward to seeing them in concert again!
